Soccer gloves are goalkeepers's work tools, and currently the market has a huge variety of brands with different models, multiple colors, different types of cuts and specific palms for each playing field so we can choose a pair of gloves that fits our profile; and every year there are new products that hit the market and constantly change our preferences.
Given all this, this guide will provide you all the information you need to know what kind of glove to buy, and find a product that fits all goalkeeper's needs. So at the time of choosing your pair of gloves, you should review this three cuestions:
The playing field is one of the key points on the durability of a glove. For natural grass, a glove with high-quality latex will suffer less wear, but if we use it on artificial grass the wear will be higher, althought the grip performance will remain optimal. For trainning gloves, due to the amount of times they will be used, we recommend it to be a lower quality so it have a higher durability.
For trainning days we recommend you use specific gloves for wet fields, that has AquaGrip latex, a special material for these days, is a latex with more porosity, this means our palm will absorb the water excess to avoid the ball to slide, also the glove body is usualy made of neoprene that helps the glove not to get wet. The main disadvantage is that if the conditions aren't appropiate, the wear is much higher.
When we have to choose a glove is important to know if we're going to use it for matches or during the trainings. The glove's wear during a training is equal to five or six matches. If you have a glove model for training and another model for matches we recomend you to use two pair of gloves for each one, with a different type of palm. A glove with a medium or low quality palm for trainings and the same glove with a high quality palm for playing matches. In this way you will stretch on the efficiency of both pair of gloves.
Once we have chosen the type of the palm and the activity we're going to use our glove for (training, compettion, etc), we must choose this one we like more the color, the design, and other very important aspects which make possible the fact that two gloves with the same quality, give opposite sensations to the goalkeeper. That's because not all the gloves are similar.
The glove choice will be determinated after answering the three previous questions where you will find the model that will better adapt to your needs ande the style of the game.
You always have to know that the most important component of the glove is the palm, it's the only thing which is between our hand and the ball. It gives us grip, protection and damping.
The external fingers strengthen the gripping (the Rollfinger cut is more equipped) and central fingers give a bigger sensation of contact with the ball.
They are recommended for matches due to the sensibility of latex. The bigger grip, the smaller durability of the palm.
Our range ELITE It's recommended for comepetition, its 4mm Latex ContactGrip palm is the most advanced technology of our colection and it's has been created for goalkeepers who are looking for a glove with a elite level of grip, the best efficiency both dry and wet, very resistant to abrasion.
Our range PRO It's recommended for goalkeepers looking for a competition glove and a Latex with the maximum efficiency of grip in all conditions. Its 4mm Latex Giga Grip palm is the most recommended for natural grass because it's a softer material.
The synthetic latex has a slower water absorption capacity so there'are more possibilities of having acuaplaning between the latex and the ball. However, the resistance to abrasion will be higher than in the high quality, because synthetic latex is more resistant than natural latex.
Our range PRO II SOTF It's recommended por training and competition. It has a component with a bigger resistance to erosion than the average. Its 3.5mm Super Soft Latex palm is the best option fr goalkeepers that are looking for durability and a quality grip. We recommend its use with artificial grass and in dry conditions.
Our range TRAINNING It's recommended for formation. Its 3mm of Latex Super Low palm is the best option for all the goalkeepers than are begining in the competition and that are looking for a glove with a high durability in the palm, and they don't accept a low quality grip. We recommend to use it with artificial grass and in dry conditions.
In this range the percentege of natural latex is almost non-existent or ,even, it can be a completely synthetic latex palm. Synthetic latex has worse grip properties and damping, especially in wet, however, it has a very high erosion resistance.
A good way for verify the latex quality and the quantity of synthetic or natural latex that it has, it's looking de water absorption of the palm. If we pour a little of water on a natural latex, it will be absorbed quickly. If we pour it on a glove with a mixing of natural and synthetic latex, it will be absorbed slowly. And if we do the same is a synthetic latex palm, the water will be spread for all the palm. These are some of the palms presented by the brands.
The palm's back and the cut, can be the most important part when we have to choose a glove, because of the material quality and also because glove's back is the esthetic part of the glove.
Backs normally change their materials composition. They can be maded of latex built over high quality textiles that help with the air circulation for Medium and Low Quality models, or they can also be made of PVC with textiles that offers a low air circulation for Low Quality models. There are also other types of technologies that can emphasize the difference at the back, like for example the protection palques for fingers. These models are siutable not only for matches, but also for trainings due to all the blows.
The wristband is, with the fastener, the part which attach the glove to the hand. Although when we're choosing a glove we don't usually give a lot of attention to the back and the palm, it's one of the most important parts that we have to value when we are going to buy a glove. There are two types of wristbands: elastic and neoprene
It standardize the fitting firmness
We can find some types of fasteners, like it happens with wraistbands.
In order to increase the glove's durability, manufacturers add a thin layer of chemical products to the glove's palm surface. These chemical products do a great job with the conservation of natural latex's characteristics, but they also reduce, momentarily, the grip quality. For this reason, it's very important to clean the glove after the first use to remove these chemical products. Making this, you will be able to use the maximum grip and the maximum efficiency that it offers.
To enjoy the maximum glove's efficiency, it's recommnded to wet the hands palms, before and during the use.
Try to left a wet towel near to you
In addition to securing the maximum grip in a contact with the ball, if we keep the humidity, we will also reduce the premature palms' wear.
You can apply this to natural latex palm's gloves
It's very important to take care of the gloves after using them. We recommend goalkeepers to keep their gloves in a compartment separated from other materials, to avoid an accidental damage. Keep always your gloves cleaned. During the use, some dirty particles will stick on latex, and if you don't eliminate them, latex will become worse faster.
It's very important, as goalkeeper, to have cleaned all our equipment when we're going to play or train; it doen't matter in which category we're. If we don't clean the gloves, they will become worse and the palm will lose its adhesion.
The first thing that we have to do to keep a glove is taking care of it, like we have said before. You also should avoid the following situations which are external attacks that a glove can suffers:
NEVER CLEAN THEM IN A WASHING MACHINE!
The glove's drying must be done in shadows and far away from warm sources. If you don't do this, the glove will harden and it will be breakable, so that will reduce its lifetime. Hang the gloves in a dry and ventilate place, and keep them away from direct solar light or from warm sources.
You have to consider that all the previous advices and suggestions mustn't be taken like a substitute of manufacturer's instructions, and we can't be in charge or the advers effects.
Those gloves we will use for playing should be cleaned in order to keep always the best adhesion characteristics. In addition, we will avoid bad smell and we will legthen our gloves's lifetime.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAND?
Thinking about giving to the client the best service, N1 Goalkeeper has in each product page a specific measures board.
each gloves brand/model can suffers variations in its saze measures, due to different cut and models.
The board was developed from measures made in the product. We habe build a board for each available model in our catalog, so the client can be sure that he is going to buy the product in the correct measure for his hands size.
The measure must be taken from the first line below the hand palm to the end of the medium finger. Immediatily, this measure (in centimetres) must be compared with the board to confirm which is the appropiate size.
